“Secure your oxygen mask on first, and then assist the other person”

If you have ever flown on a plane, you would have heard this said by the Flight Attendant. As important as the direction is in the air, it is equally important on the ground.

I cannot stress this advice loud enough, strong enough or often enough. You are of no use to yourself, your family, your friends or your business, if you are exhausted all the time.

In fact, how many small businesses have you heard of going belly-up because the owner has run themselves to the ground and their “get up and go has got up and gone!”

You will be amazed at the difference in the quality of your life, in what you can achieve and what you can contribute, when you exercise regularly and eat healthy food. Look – you don’t have to be manic about it. Personally, I’m of the opinion “everything in moderation and binge every now and then!”

Ok, so in a few brief paragraphs, we’ve got your inside sorted! Now let’s look at the outside.

We women in particular are very critical of ourselves (ah, I see you nodding your head). Every time we look in the mirror we tend to zoom in on our faults (oh, is that vigorous nodding I now see?)

So, there is something to be said for the ‘Killer Haircut’. Like it or not, a killer haircut and a swipe of lipstick will do wonders for your self-esteem (Don’t think Stepford wife here – think the smug inner confidence of an achiever).

Guys – you seem pretty resilient in this area – clean your teeth, brush your hair and shave (unless it’s not cool to do that in your industry!)

Research shows there is a direct relationship between a healthy confidence level and happiness – so who am I to argue.

So, give yourself an edge right from the start – put the oxygen mask on yourself first.

Soon we’ll be looking at the value of being organised (and no I don’t mean organised chaos!)

Until then – breathe deeply!

Always remember:

“Your future is in great hands – Your own”
