Well, here we are already midway through January and some of you who made New Year’s resolutions or perhaps have set goals for 2017 may be struggling already.
Whatever it is you want to achieve this year, whether it be exercising more, giving up smoking, saving a little more money, there will be times when the going gets tough.
Unfortunately, there is no magic want to make it happen for you. It will take discipline, determination and at times, courage. You will need to manage the voice in your head which says ‘just one more bite’, ‘but I really need this item’ or ‘I’ll quit after this cigarette’.
The key to success is to ensure you stack up the reason/s why you want your outcome e.g. “I want to get fitter so I can play with my kids more”.
The reason ‘why’ needs to be really important to you, so when temptation rears it’s ugly head (and it will) you are able to read your ‘really important reason why’ and firmly stick with it.
Always remember – it has to be YOUR reason why and it has to be very important to YOU. If it’s not important enough, you’ll slip back into your old habits.
If you fall off your bike, don’t be too tough on yourself – dust yourself off and jump back to it really quickly. Don’t give up so easily! Enlisting a buddy to help support you is also a very smart move.
Remember it takes discipline, determination and a great reason WHY. Put those into traits into action and you’re well on your way to success.
